The Digital Basket

The Digital Basket is a resource for Indigenous, Settler & Newcomer folx that reinforces the practice of slowing down, putting meaning into work, relationship-building and intergenerational sharing. Each basket strip will represent different, localized (to the Algoma and Great Lakes region) actions that incorporate the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions' (TRC) Calls to Action, and raise awareness about the historical and ongoing legacy of the Indian Residential School Policy (IRSP).

The Story of Our Stories

From March 2019 to October 2020, Thinking Rock Community Arts visited with 30 community-engaged artists working in the rural, remote and First Nation contexts across Northern Ontario to hear their stories and learn from their lived experiences about the challenges and opportunities they are facing in delivering community-engaged arts programming in their communities, and to consider what supports, research, and/or policy actions might help make their work easier and more sustainable.

Follow the links to learn more about this project and to read the final report.

Stories of NOW

In January 2022, Thinking Rock Community Arts was invited to take part in Art for Social Change Now, the inaugural (online) event of the Art for Social Change Network (ASCN), a new national network of community-engaged art for social change artists and organizations. ASCN is hosted by Judith Marcuse Projects (JMP) and the International Centre of Art for Social Change (ICASC). We presented on a panel as part of Stories of NOW, a project by ArtBridges.

The Northern Lights Collaborative: Resources & Learning Document

Over six years , the Northern Lights Collaborative (NLC) worked with youth organizations across Northern Ontario to centre youth leadership & storytelling, decrease youth isolation, and increase organizational accountability to youth voices. Through programming, events and advocacy, the NLC - including lead organization CatalystsX (Ottawa), and partners Thinking Rock Community Arts (Thessalon), NORDIK Institute (Sault Ste. Marie), Mindful Makers Collective (Thunder Bay), Thunder Bay Entrepreneur Centre, The Klub (Sault Ste. Marie), Youth Odena (Sault Ste. Marie), and Roots Community Food Centre (Thunder Bay) - worked to empower youth facing barriers to lead, advocate and contribute their voices to their communities.

In December 2024, the NLC made the difficult decision to sunset the Collaborative. As part of this process, and to support future efforts, the NLC have created a public folder of Resources, including a Learning Document, to share with community, changemakers and collective organizers.
