Position: Community Arts Programming Assistant
Organization: Thinking Rock Community Arts
Location: Candidate will work primarily at Thinking Rock’s programming space (Thessalon) and offsite locations across Algoma
Start Date: July 2, 2024
Pay:  $19.80 per hour, 31 hours per week
Term: This is a 9-week contract position

About the Job:

The Community Arts Programming Assistant will support Thinking Rock’s various current community-based arts programs, through activities held online, in-person (from our space in Thessalon at 199 Main Street, and at offsite locations across the Algoma District) and via hybrid delivery. Working in cooperation with other staff team members, they will support and participate in the design, delivery and evaluation of online, in-person and hybrid art-making activities that bring people of all ages, Nations, abilities, backgrounds and identities together in creative, collaborative community building. They will support program coordination tasks, including evaluation, promotions and outreach activities. Working as part of the Thinking Rock team, the Assistant will be mentored by the Artistic Director, and supported in their role by staff and volunteers.

Assets for this position include:

  • passion and/or experience in the arts;

  • prior community outreach or client service experience;

  • French and/or Anishinaabewmowin language skills;

  • a valid driver’s license, and/or access to transportation to attend work; and

  • a valid Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector)

This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program. As specified in the program requirements, the successful youth candidate:

(a) is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

(b) is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and

(c) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
